Field and CPL Updates
2007-2008 Antarctica
Operations are going very smoothly at WAIS Divide. Most of the construction in the drilling and core handling arch has been completed and is ready for the NSF inspection team. ICDS is popping out 2.5 m cores with excellent ice quality (typically no breaks and a smooth surface) every hour. They have it so well organized and designed they make it look very boring. The NICL crew and science techs are doing a fine job packing up the ice. We are getting nice annual layers on the DEP. We have been running two shifts, and as of today are adding a third shift. We only have 8 more days of drilling this season and I expect we will end the season around 600m. The spirit at camp is high, there is a great group of people out here.
Cheers-
